The Paintings and Icons

The Basilica contains some very valuable paintings, witnesses of the artistic revival that characterized the town of Martina Franca in the mid-eighteenth century.
Particularly interesting are the works of Peter Cataldo Mauro, called De Mauro, like the Shepherd Madonna among the saints Gregory, John the Evangelist and Nicasium (1765) and the tempera of the The Shepherds’Adoration (1773) respectively placed in the sacristy and in the Chapel of the Nativity; the oil painting of Pentecost, painted by Michelangelo Capotorto in 1769 on the wall above the great arch of the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament; The Last Supper (1804) painted by Domenico Carella and placed on the altar of the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament.
There are, in addition, many oil paintings dating back to the late eighteenth century by an unknown painter:

the Apparition of the Virgin to Saint Girolamo Emiliani, in the right aisle; the Archangel Raphael and Tobiolo and the Our Lady of Cardellino between San Michele Archangel and San Gaetano da Thiène in the transept on the right.
